A recent report released on June 22, 2011 suggests that some people may loose their ability to text after BOTOX injections in their palms. Such injections are done for excessive sweating of palms, called hyperhidrosis.

While the weakness of palm muscles is expected side-effect of BOTOX injections, it has never been brought up in the light of texting before.   An average American teenager sends around 1,000 text messages per month, which make texting a huge communication tool.

While some may think that loosing ability to text could be a significant limitation for considering the procedure, it is wise to keep in mind that hyperhidrosis can be very embarrassing and severe condition, when palms not just simply moist, but wet all the time.

It is wise to consider BOTOX injections for palms in cases when the wetness of your hands are truly interfering with your social interaction. Hands which are never dry make it difficult to write, type, let alone texting.  Handshakes are often avoided because of embarrassment they bring.

Often excessive sweating is not limited to palms alone. Feet and underarms are affected too, bringing body odour that difficult to fight even with regular hygiene.

BOTOX injections for excessive sweating still remain a highly effective treatment option that lasts long and has minimal side effects.  For people who suffer from hyperhidrosis the risk of loosing ability to text is a mere inconvenience, a small price paid for decreased sweating, dry hands and regained self-esteem.

The good thing about BOTOX injections is that the effect will wane in about 6 to 12 month, and the texting impairment will go away without a trace. In the report quoted above, the texting impairment lasted for about 6 weeks, but dryness from BOTOX lasted for several months. For most people this will be a good trade-off for treating their excessive sweating condition.
