Allergan press-release of Nov 14, 2011 announces the official approval from Health Canada of Botox use for prevention of chronic migraines. The decision was based on extensive research that proved efficacy of Botox injections for prevention of migraine attacks in people who suffer 15 days or more per month from this debilitating condition.

This is an important advancement in migraine prevention, as it opens up effective and clinically-proven option for migraine sufferers in battling their condition.

It is estimated that approximately 270,000 Canadians older than 18 years of age suffer from chronic migraines, that cost up to $1,800 per patient per year for Canadian economy.

Chronic migraine sometimes can be under-diagnosed as not all people seek medical help and unaware of the treatment options available to them.  In the mean time, chronic migraine makes significant impact on one's quality of life and productivity, causing great disability and work absence.
